Mobility

The Mobility within the Midwife of the North network has increased during the last two years and especially during the last year. 2021 the mobility was only used for students. Cause of the small amount of funding no teacher mobility was planned or implemented. In 2022 the network got extra mobility funding and more students were applying for mobility within the network. There is a high interest in mobility to the network partners from the hospitals at the autonomous island among the students due to the special conditions and arrangements at the islands and the small communities they act in.

Exchange

Exchange students apply for mobility according to their priorities and with mutual agreement between partner institutions. Students in direct-entry programs (Finland, Denmark, and Baltic
countries) can go for either express or four to six weeks of exchange while postgraduate students usually (Island, Norway, Sweden) choose express mobility for one to three weeks
of clinical practice. The network is coordinated from Finland, Arcada University of Applied Sciences but all partners participate in the planning of future activities and the network will recommend all partners to consider Erasmus partnership and cooperation as a complement for staff and long-term mobility and the long-term mobility as well as staff mobility will be canalized to the Erasmus program and Erasmus agreements. During the exchange period, theoretical studies – as well as studies in clinical practice – are considered part of the educational program and recognized for credits (ECTS). All institutions will provide information on their own institution facilitating the process of finding the most suitable institution for the individual exchange student or lecturer considering specific wishes. A learning agreement will be signed before the exchange and all students are obligated to handle a report of their exchange. All partners within the network will develop programs to give exchange students an optimal stay at a partner institution and will appoint international tutors responsible for incoming students concerning accommodation, social arrangements, and networks. Clinical supervisors have received special training to meet the special conditions of exchange students. Student selection is the responsibility of the institution to send students abroad. Training agreements are prepared well before mobility with the active participation of all parties. Lecturers will exchange documentation, pedagogical methods, and methods in professions and participate as lecturers in the receiving institution. etc. Teacher/tutor exchange: activities from each institution visiting partners include giving lectures, meeting with staff, and visiting hospitals. Midwives/supervisors from the autonomous islands travel to partner institutions to share their hands-on experience with both students and teachers/supervisors. Reports from both student and teacher exchanges are available on the common network webpage on Teams. Long-term mobility is seldom used within Midwife of the North due to the strict curriculum and the big amount of practical training in it. If students or staff are interested in long-term or staff mobility, they will be referred to Erasmus exchange as a complement for staff and long-term mobility.
